Rebecca MacNamee

Rebecca MacNamee is a violist based in Cañon City, Colorado.  She started by playing classical music, but along the way discovered the joy of improvising, being able to hop into a jam session with others, and using a loop pedal.  Rebecca loves exploring the connection of music to wellness, and brings that into her teaching. Her goal is to bring the benefits of music to as many people as possible - whether that be through teaching people to play, or performing.

Rebecca has always been drawn to teaching - not only because she enjoys seeing others realize the benefits of music, but because it improves her own playing. She is currently doing Suzuki string pedagogy training through the Suzuki Association of the Americas.

In addition to teaching and performing, Rebecca also has extensive experience in arts management and business.  She has worked as a jack-of-all-trades at Chamber Music Pittsburgh, a consultant at TRG Arts, and a data analyst and revenue operations leader at Dario (a digital health company).  Throughout all of these roles, she has been passionate about using data to inspire action and drive smarter business decisions. In addition to Chamber Music Pittsburgh and TRG Arts, she has also worked as an arts manager for the Carnegie Mellon University Music Preparatory School, the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, ArCoNet (formerly Elite Strings Program), and the West Branch Music Festival.

When she is not playing music, she enjoys hiking and backpacking, attempting to wrangle her yard, and reading.

She graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Viola Performance, and a Master’s in Arts Management.  She has performed with professional ensembles in both Pittsburgh and Colorado, including: Chamber Orchestra of the Springs, Royal Gorge Philharmonic, and the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra.  She is currently on the Board of Directors of ArCoNet (The Arts and Community Network), based in Lansdale, PA.
